M.I.T. Hacking Medicine 2024

May 17 - May 19

Veterans Health – MIT Hacking Medicine 2024 is a three-day event from May 17-19th that focuses exclusively on Veteran priorities selected from VHA’s top strategic areas using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in three tracks:

  • Connect Veterans to the soonest and best care:  Address scheduling delays through solutions to enhance telehealth, improve accessibility, match clinical expertise to Veteran needs, align resources for quality care, standardize processes, and optimize care coordination to ensure timely access to the best possible care for Veterans.
  • Prevent Veteran Suicide (Mental Health):  Focus on aspects like modernizing the technology behind virtual care, new care models and modalities, employee training, implementing diverse and inclusive care practices, and advancing research and specialized care for various Veteran populations.
  • Hire faster and more competitively:  Improve VA’s hiring process by introducing solutions to expedite recruitment, enhance the onboarding experience, reduce operational inefficiencies, and develop advanced hiring technologies, aiming to make VA a leader in 21st-century healthcare employment.

Up to 350 participants working directly on solutions, the “hackers”, will be drawn primarily from Florida’s VA Health Systems (VISN08), their academic affiliates, and the Tampa Bay ecosystem. Additional hackers will be selected nationally through a competitive process to ensure a diversity of backgrounds and expertise.  An additional ~50 participants will facilitate the event through mentors, subject matter experts, judges, and event facilitators.

The Hackathon is hosted by Tampa VAMC in collaboration with USF’s Morsani College of Medicine.
